Updates
What's new on HandyCompress. We post an entry whenever a tool, feature, or guide ships — newest first.
- New tool: Social media image resizer. One image, every platform size — YouTube thumbnail, Instagram post and story, X header, LinkedIn banner and more. Crop to fill with a position control or pad with a blurred background, then download every selected size in one ZIP.
- Scan tool improvements: documents are now auto-straightened on load (corner detection), plus zoom controls and bigger corner handles for precise placement on desktop.
- New tool: Scan a document with your phone. Photograph a document, drag the four corners onto the page, and get a straightened, scanner-style PDF — perspective correction and a clean black-and-white look, all on your device.
- New: Merge PDF — combine several PDFs into one, in any order.
- New: Split PDF — extract a page range, or split a document into single pages.
- New: JPG to PDF — turn images into a single PDF, one per page, with page-size options.
- New: PDF to JPG — save each PDF page as a JPG or PNG at the resolution you choose.
- New tool: Redact PDFs & images. Draw boxes over anything sensitive — pixels are destroyed, not covered, so the redaction can't be peeled back. Redacted PDF pages are flattened; EXIF and document metadata are removed automatically.
- New: Guides section. Three in-depth articles to start: compressing PDFs to meet upload limits, what EXIF data reveals about you, and choosing between HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF.
- New: contact page and this updates page.
- Richer homepage: how client-side processing works, explained step by step.
- First-use hint on the image compressor: the compare slider now wiggles and shows "Drag to compare" until you've used it once.
- Image resizer upgraded: set exact width × height with an aspect-ratio lock, see the original dimensions, and preview the output size live. Resize is now the first option in the image compressor sidebar.
- Faster first load: the homepage now ships a much smaller JavaScript bundle.
- Canonical-domain redirects: all www / http variants now permanently redirect to
https://handycompress.com.
- Fixed a layout shift caused by the scrollbar appearing on page load.
- Improved button contrast in the cookie banner for accessibility (WCAG).
- Faster font rendering — removed an unused webfont declaration.
- Added "Why compress?" educational sections to every tool page, in all three languages.
- Expanded FAQs across the site.
- Structural PDF compression. The PDF compressor now recompresses only the embedded images inside the PDF — text stays selectable and searchable, fonts and links stay intact. No more flattened pages.
- Target-file-size mode for PDFs: type "6 MB" and the tool finds the best quality that fits.
- HandyCompress launches with four tools: PDF compressor, HEIC → JPG converter, EXIF viewer/stripper, and image compressor — all running 100% in the browser.
- Full French and Spanish versions of every page.
- Before/after compare slider with zoom and pan on the image compressor.
- Batch processing with ZIP download on every tool.
- Drop a file anywhere on the homepage and get routed to the right tool automatically.
- Privacy-first consent banner (Quebec Law 25 / GDPR) — ads stay non-personalized unless you opt in.
