Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026

The short version: Files you process on HandyCompress never leave your device. We don't run analytics. We don't sell personal data. We display ads via Google AdSense; you control whether those ads are personalized using the consent banner (also reachable any time via Cookie preferences in the footer).

1. What we process and where

Every tool on this site runs entirely in your web browser. When you drop a file into a tool, the file is read into your browser's memory, processed by your own device's CPU, and the output is offered for download — all without the file ever being transmitted to our servers or to anyone else. We have no technical ability to access, view, copy, or store your files.

2. Information our servers receive

To serve the site, our hosting infrastructure (and our content-delivery network) automatically receives standard request metadata:

  • Your IP address (used to route the response and for abuse prevention)
  • Your user agent (browser/OS string)
  • The page you requested and the referrer, if any
  • Timestamp of the request

This information is retained in standard web-server logs for a limited period (typically 30 days) for security, debugging, and aggregate traffic analysis. It is not linked to your identity and is not shared with third parties except as required by law.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

HandyCompress itself sets no non-essential cookies. We use your browser's local storage (which lives only on your device) to remember preferences such as your consent choice, your chosen language, and your saved tool settings. This local-storage data never leaves your device.

When ads serve, Google AdSense may set cookies, web beacons (pixels), and similar device identifiers on your device for ad delivery, frequency capping, and (if you have accepted) personalization. You can decline personalization at any time via the consent banner or the Cookie preferences link in the footer; in that case, AdSense serves only generic (non-personalized) ads. Some cookies required for ad delivery and fraud prevention may still be set even if you decline personalization — these are necessary to display ads at all and to keep the service free.

4. Advertising — Google AdSense

This site is supported by advertising delivered through Google AdSense (Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA, and its affiliates). When ads serve:

  • Google may collect technical data such as IP address, user agent, the page being viewed, ad interactions, and approximate location to deliver and measure ads.
  • Google may use cookies and similar technologies to (a) frequency-cap ads, (b) detect fraudulent clicks, and (c) — only if you have consented — personalize the ads shown to you.
  • Information about how Google uses data from sites that use its services is available at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising across the web at google.com/settings/ads.
  • EEA, UK & Switzerland: consent for advertising cookies is collected through a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP), in line with Google's EU User Consent Policy. Until you consent, only non-personalized ads are shown.

We do not share your files or anything you process with Google or any advertising network. Ads are placed alongside our content, not based on what you upload (which we don't see).

5. Third parties

Aside from Google AdSense (described above), our content-delivery network may collect request metadata to provide caching and security services. We use no other third-party advertising, analytics, or social-media trackers on this site. We will update this policy and require renewed consent before introducing any.

6. Your rights

You have the right to know what personal information we hold, to access it, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to withdraw consent at any time. Depending on where you live, additional rights may apply:

  • Quebec (Law 25 — Loi modernisant des dispositions législatives en matière de protection des renseignements personnels): right of access, correction, deletion, portability, withdrawal of consent, and the right to object to automated decision-making.
  • Canada (PIPEDA): right of access and correction.
  • European Economic Area / United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR): rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection; and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
  • California (CCPA / CPRA): right to know, delete, correct, opt out of "sale/share", and limit use of sensitive personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, contact our privacy officer at our contact address. We respond within 30 days. Because the tools themselves don't transmit anything about your files, the data we hold about you is generally limited to standard server logs and your stored consent choice.

7. Children

HandyCompress is not directed to children under 13 (under 14 in Quebec). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes that affect your rights will be highlighted on the site, and where required by law we will request renewed consent.

9. Privacy officer / contact

Our privacy officer can be reached at our contact address. Questions about this policy, requests to exercise your rights, or complaints about our handling of your personal information all go to that same address.
