About HandyCompress

HandyCompress is a small suite of file utilities built on a simple promise: your files stay on your computer. No uploads, no servers handling your data, no accounts, no tracking your usage.

Why we exist

Most online "free" PDF compressors, image converters, and EXIF strippers upload your files to their servers, where they're processed, briefly stored, and (in theory) deleted. For a one-off cat photo, that may be fine. For a contract, a tax document, a passport scan, a medical report — it's not.

We built HandyCompress because modern browsers can do this work entirely on-device. WebAssembly lets us run the same engines that powered desktop tools — directly in your browser. The result: a tool that's structurally incapable of seeing your files, with no compromise on quality or speed.

What's free, and why

Every tool on HandyCompress is free and has no limits — no file-count cap, no size cap, no daily quota. The reason is simple: because the processing runs on your device, our cost per file is zero. We pay for static hosting (a fixed cost regardless of how many people use the site), so there's no economic incentive to gate features behind a paywall.

Running the site isn't free for us — hosting, development, and the domain all cost money. We cover those costs with a small number of display ads, kept away from the tools themselves: never inside the workflow, never popups, never click-tricks.

How to verify our claims

• Open your browser's Network tab (DevTools) and watch while you use a tool — you'll see zero data leaving your device.
• Disconnect your Wi-Fi after the page loads — the tools still work.
• Install HandyCompress as a Progressive Web App and run it offline indefinitely.
